Robert Murphy and Shannonbay Extra are Victorious in Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Second Round at Sparsholt College

Robert Murphy enjoyed a successful Bank Holiday weekend after bagging a win in Sunday’s Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Second Round held during the Pony Premier Show at Sparsholt College in Hampshire.

Forty-one starting combinations came forward to this second round and each rider was hoping to take home one of the three direct qualifying places on offer for the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show.

After two rounds of exciting competition, seven combinations achieved the double clear needed for a place in the final jump off. The production of a treble clear was very much the aim for each of these seven remaining competitors and three were eventually produced, which also meant that the qualification places were secured too.

Victory was taken by 14 year-old Robert Murphy from Preston, Lancashire and he was on Richard Lunn’s 8 year-old bay mare Shannonbay Extra. This combination produced their immaculate treble clear in just 39.87 seconds and in doing so, were the only ones to break the 40.00 second barrier in this particular class. Their time also gave them a cushion of over half a second.

Allana Clutterbuck, also aged 14, from Upminster, Essex took second place with Sultan Du Bary, a 9 year-old bay gelding owned by Susan Evans. They produced their treble clear in 40.60 seconds.

The third and final treble clear came from 16 year-old Olivia Poole from Shrewsbuy, Shropshire with her mother Michelle’s 7 year-old dark bay mare Pauldary’s Bobbys Girl. Their treble clear was delivered in 41.25 seconds.

With the three direct qualifying tickets for the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show having been allocated, the combinations in fourth and fifth took home the chance to compete in the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Masters at the forthcoming British Showjumping National Championships.
