Pony Team victorious in Lamprechtshausen

The British pony team, sponsored by LeMieux, proved victorious in their Nations Cup competition at Lamprechtshausen earlier today by relegating Italy and  home team Austria into 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

The course proved to be a tough one to ride with all nations notching up high scores in the first round, along with the majority also doing the same in the second. With all teams accumulating faults it was a 28 penalty score at the end of the first round for Great Britain which saw them sit in 3rd place at the halfway stage.

Discussing the course with Clare Whitaker, their Chef d’Equipe and British Showjumping Youth Team Manager, before coming back in to face it for the second time certainly paid off as they only had to carry a further 4 penalties between them.  With other nations continuing to error it was a two place climb up the leaderboard to see Great Britain claim the title as their own and push Italy and Austria into the lower placings.

The team of four riders were:

Holly Cooper, aged 15, from Northampton, Northamptonshire with Valentino Supreme, a 10 year-old bay gelding owned by Sophie Phillips.

Megan Li, aged 14, from Chalfont St. Giles, Buckinghamshire with Harry, a 16 year-old bay gelding owned by Alex Li

Tatiane Mauree, aged 14, from Newbury, Berkshire with Horseabout Zibu, a 9 year-old bay mare owned by Arlina Mauree

Jake Myers, aged 14, from South Brent, Devon with Razorlite II, an 18 year-old British bred grey mare owned by Joanna Myers

Talking after the presentation Clare Whitaker said “I was naturally a little disappointed with their first rounds. However, we talked things through at the halfway stage and I have to say they all really dug deep and improved vastly when they tackled the course again with two of them jumping clear and us only having to carry one further fence to the first round score which I’m incredibly proud of.  It’s been a great day for us and we are absolutely delighted to have won what proved to be a hard competition to claim.”
