Oliver Fletcher scoops Junior Individual Silver at European Championships

Oliver Fletcher enjoyed another successful day at the Children, Junior and Young Rider Championships in Fontainebleau, France when he scooped the Individual Silver medal this morning, adding to the Team Silver that was won just two days ago. Oliver was competing as part of the NAF Junior Team and today’s podium place rounded off five days of fantastic jumping.

Fifteen year-old Oliver from Faringdon, Oxfordshire delivered his medal winning performance on board Hello Disckoboy D.N., the 10 year old grey gelding owned by Lady Kirkham and Lady Harris. The pair came into today’s Individual Final in third place after accruing just 6.20 penalties over the first three rounds of competition.

Battling it out against twenty-nine other starters and with an individual medal at stake, Oliver knew that he needed two clear rounds today. Once again, he belied his young age and rode with real composure and determination. In doing so, he delivered the only double clear of today’s Individual Final and this outstanding result was to prove good enough for the Individual Silver medal and of course, a place on the coveted podium.

Today’s result saw this talented combination add a fourth European Championship medal to their tally after they picked up Team Gold and Individual Bronze at the 2017 Children’s European Championships in Samorin, Slovakia.

It was Ireland’s Jason Foley who took home the Individual Gold medal today. He finished on 5.59 penalties with Castlefield Vegas whilst Belgium’s Simon Morssinkhof and Vivolta de Gree were the Bronze medallists after they finished on 11.31 penalties.

Also jumping today for Great Britain were Sienna Charles with Peter Charles’ Chaitanya 2, James Winter with Elizabeth Winter’s Cosmo Boy and Robert Murphy with Stacey Webb’s Newbridges Chablis SW. These combinations finished in 12th, 13th and 26th place respectively.

Yesterday saw Megan Li come agonisingly close to a medal in the Children’s Individual Final after she took part in the five horse jump off for the Silver and Bronze medals. On board Alex Li’s Eclips van Erpekom, Megan was unfortunate to have a fence down and this saw her finish in equal fourth after having produced four clear rounds out of five across all of the days of competition. Madison Heath was also in action yesterday on Claire Beecroft’s Burgana and they finished in overall 21st.
