Nicole Lockhead Anderson Wins Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round at Tillyoch Equestrian Centre

Underscoring her talent, 14 year-old Nicole Lockhead Anderson won her second Blue Chip Pony Newcomer Second Round of the season aboard Gangnam Style II.

The consistent pair had already won at South View, and topped their second qualifier at Tillyoch Equestrian Centre to be assured of a place in the championship final taking place at the prestigious Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) at the NEC, Birmingham in October.

Forty hopefuls bid for the two qualifying place at HOYS with almost half – nineteen – producing first round clears over Mark McGowan’s eleven-fence track.  The raised and shortened course for round two reduced these to seven for the final jump-off.

Drawn first to go in the jump-off, Nicole from Banchroy, Aberdeenshire confidently tackled the seven fences, bringing the 7-year-old Irish gelding Gangnam Style II home to set an unassailable lead.

14 year-old Kiarra Hulme from Dobcross, Oldham and the 11-year-old gelding Bombay III provided the only other treble clear for second place.

15 year-old Molly Bennett from Whitchurch Shropshire produced a quick time with the 9-year-old Mr Bojangles III, the pair unfortunately lowered a pole to take third place but gained a qualification spot that has been passed down the line thanks to the already qualified Nicole.

Combinations sitting in fourth and fifth place get another chance to qualify as they go forward to the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Masters at the National Showjumping Championships, Stoneleigh, in August.
