Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Second Rounds begin at Wales & The West Show

Following a competitive year of first round competition, the Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Second Rounds began last week (Thursday 24th May 2012) at the Wales & The West Show Royal in Newport, Monmouthshire. The class attracted entries from 70 talented horse and rider combinations from all over the country.

 

A total of 70 combinations started the second round with the aim of obtaining their qualifying place for the Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Championship Final, which will be held at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) on Thursday 4th October 2012. 

 

Up for grabs at this second round were two direct qualifying tickets for the Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS). Following two closely fought rounds of competition on Thursday, nine combinations achieved the double clear required to get them through into the final jump off and in the final jump off, five riders achieved the crucial treble clear required to put them in with a chance of qualifying for the Championship Final.  

 

The eventual winner of this second round was 24-year-old Nicole Pavitt from Crawley, West Sussex and she rode Lisa Tudor’s Festina Van Texelhof to first place. Nicole rode the 7-year-old mare clear over the jump off course in a time of 42.85 seconds to secure the first direct qualifying place for the Championship Final.   

 

Second place went to 30-year-old Jude Burgess from Tonbridge, Kent. Jude rode his treble clear aboard Fleur IV, owned by Horsepower Motor Centre Ltd and he cleared the jump off course in a time of 44.24 seconds. This time gave him a two second advantage over the combination in third to ensure that the second direct qualifying spot was his. 

 

The rider and horse combinations who finished in third to fifth place missed out on the HOYS qualification this time around, but they did take home the chance to compete at the Victory Shavings British Showjumping Scope Festival (26th August – 1st September 2012).

The Victory Shavings British Showjumping Scope Festival 2012 will take place from the 26th August – 1st September 2012 at Staffordshire County Showground.
