Holly Gillott Wins Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier at Warrington Horse Show

Fresh from the British win in the Italian leg of the CSIO 5* Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup series, Holly Gillott finished the Bank Holiday weekend with another victory, this time in the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifiers at Warrington Horse Show at Tabley Park near Knutsford, Cheshire on Monday.

The qualifier was contested by forty-six combinations and each competitor came forward with the aim of taking home one of the three coveted direct qualifying tickets for the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show.

With double clears very much at the forefront of each competitor’s mind, nine combinations eventually produced the first round clear required for a place in the jump off. Five double clears were then produced and this then meant that the clock was to become the deciding factor in the allocation of the qualification places.

Holly Gillott, aged 26, from Loughborough, Leicestershire delivered the fastest double of the class on board her own 7 year–old bay gelding Quality Old Joker. Their foot perfect round in the jump off saw them cross the finish line in 37.18 seconds, a time that was to eventually give them over a second in hand.

After her win, Holly said “I was really pleased with Quality Old Joker’s performance as I’d only got back from Rome the day before the class, so hadn’t really been able to do very much with him. He came in to the class quite fresh and jumped a fantastic first round. In the jump off, I was able to push him forward whilst making the tight turns required.”

Geoff Billington, aged 60, from Newhall, Nantwich finished in second with his wife Sarah’s 8 year-old bay gelding Conman JX after they produced their double clear in 38.39 seconds.

Third place went to 22 year-old Alison Barton from Bradford, West Yorkshire on Gaye Hartley’s 8 year-old liver chestnut mare Roma IV. They took third with a double clear in 39.40 seconds.
