Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds at The Cabin Equestrian Centre

A busy weekend at The Cabin Equestrian Centre in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire saw the venue host four of the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds across all of the heights, namely 0.90cm, 1.00m, 1.10m and 1.15m. The Second Rounds were held on over the weekend of Saturday 29th September 2012 and Sunday 30th September 2012. Horse and rider combinations flocked to the second rounds with the aim of qualifying for the Championships. 
 
Following a competitive season of first round competitions, competitors rode for the chance to qualify for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree International Equestrian Centre in November 2012 and all of the starting combinations were all hoping to secure one of the twelve direct qualifying tickets on offer for the Championships. 
 
Dodson & Horrell 0.90cm National Amateur Second Round. 
The 0.90cm National Amateur Second Round saw 25 starting combinations vie for their opportunity to qualify for the Championships. From these combinations, 13 made it through to the jump off and with only 12 qualifying places available, riders needed to ride fast and clear. 
 
The overall winner of this second round was 16-year-old Natalie Ross from Kincardinshire. Natalie rode a double clear on board Une Fille, an 11-year-old bay mare owned by Alan Ross. The combination produced a fast time of 44.77 seconds to secure the win and a Championship Final place.
 
The combination in second place was 21-year-old Loren Jamieson from Brechin, Augus and she was on board her own, Candour Spirit, a nine-year-old chestnut gelding. Loren rode her second clear in a time of 47.77 seconds to ensure she finished in second place. 
 
The combination that finished in third was 18-year-old Abigail Singer from Aberdeen and she secured her Championship Final place on board Gazelle IV, a 7-year old chestnut gelding owned by Aileen Field. The combination produced their second clear in a time of 52.25 seconds. 
 
A further nine riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 0.90cm National Amateur Championship Final following the production of a clear round in the first round of the class.

Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Second Round. 
The 1.00m National Amateur Second Round attracted 13 eligible starting combinations and from these combinations, 6 made it through to the jump off. 
 
The overall winner of this second round was 25-year-old Carolyn Andrews from Inverurie, Aberdeenshire. Carolyn achieved a double clear on board her own 15-year-old bay mare, Peniki. The combination produced a time of 32.87 seconds to ensure the win.
 
In second place and securing her second Championship Final qualification was 16-year-old Natalie Ross from Kincardinshire. Again, she was on board on board Une Fille, an 11-year-old bay mare owned by Alan Ross. Natalie rode her second clear in a time of 39.69 seconds to ensure she finished in second place. 
 
In third was 17-year-old Rowan Ball from Midlothian and she secured her Championship Final place on board Vandora, a 11-year old grey mare owned by Ruth Ball. The combination had an unfortunate pole at the last, but their time of 34.70 seconds was enough to ensure third place. 
 
Three more riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Championship Final following a clear round in the first round of the class.

6th Harriet Ross riding Bf Adelaide – 0/4 – 40.93 seconds
 
Dodson & Horrell 1.10m National Amateur Second Round. 
The 1.10m National Amateur Second Round attracted 14 starting combinations and 11 of these combinations achieved the first round clear required to get through to the jump off. In the jump off, four riders went on to achieve that crucial double clear, meaning that the times decided the places. 
 
In this second round, top spot was filled by 20-year-old Harriet Ross from Ellon, Aberdeenshire and she was on board her own Utah Babe, an 11-year-old bay mare. The combination posted a time of 42.74 seconds, ensuring that they won the class by just over half a second.
 
Second place was secured by 44-year-old Lesley Paton from Burntisland, Fife and she achieved her double clear on board her own 11-year-old dark bay gelding, Quin Kannan. Lesley rode her second clear in a time of 43.36 seconds.
 
Third place was taken by 28-year-old Louisa Timmins from Lasswade, Midlothian and she rode her own Spindra Z, a 13-year old bay mare, clear over the jump off course. The combination produced their second clear in a time of 45.86 seconds. 
 
A further eight riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.10m National Amateur Championship Final. One combination produced a double clear and the remaining combinations qualified due to the production of a clear in the first round.

Dodson & Horrell 1.15m National Amateur Second Round. 
This Second Round saw seven combinations starting and from these, four combinations made it through to the jump off. 
 
The overall winner was 14-year-old Aimee Bell from Aberdeenshire. Aimee rode Cameron Poe, a 10-year-old bay gelding owned by Sally Guild. The combination produced a double clear, with the second clear ridden in a time of 41.11 seconds to ensure that the win was hers.
 
In second place and securing yet another Championship Final qualification was 44-year-old Lesley Paton from Burntisland, Fife. She again achieved her double clear on board her own 11-year-old dark bay gelding, Quin Kannan. Lesley’s second clear was produced in 42.06 seconds to ensure a second place finish. 
 
In third was 25-year-old Carolyn Andrews from Inverurie, Aberdeenshire and she secured her Championship Final place on board Vasco, her own 10-year-old bay gelding. The combination finished on a total of four faults, but a time of 41.21 seconds was enough to ensure that third place was theirs. 
 
One more riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.15m National Amateur Championship Final following a clear round in the first round of the class.
