Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds at Onley Grounds Equestrian Complex

Onley Grounds Equestrian Complex in Rugby, Warwickshire was the venue for two of the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds, held at 1.00m and 1.15m. The two Second Rounds were held on Sunday 30th September 2012 and the classes attracted eligible horse and rider combinations from all over the country and these combinations rode at the second rounds with the aim of qualifying for the Championships. 

 

Following an initial season of first round competitions, competitors rode for the chance to qualify for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree International Equestrian Centre in November 2012 and all of the starting combinations were all hoping to secure one of the twelve direct qualifying tickets on offer for the Championships. 

 

This 1.00m National Amateur Second Round attracted 36 starters, all of whom had a double clear and a Championship Final place in mind. From these starting combinations, 17 made it through to the jump off and with only 12 qualifying places available, riders needed to achieve fast and clear round.

 

The overall winner of this second round was 15-year-old Georgina Philpot from Middlesex and she won the class on board Magneto Supreme, a 12-year-old grey gelding, owned by Anna Philpot. Anna and Magneto Supreme rode a double clear and the combination produced a fast time of 37.64 seconds to secure the win and a place in the Championship Final in November.

 

Second place was filled by 48-year-old Stuart Shaw from Crewe, Cheshire and he came second on board his own Zaca Mesa, an 8-year-old dark brown gelding. The combination achieved their double clear in a time of 38.74 seconds to secure their place. 

 

Third place was taken by 23-year-old Stacey Moffitt from Kenilworth, Warwickshire and Stacey was on board Diamond Leap, her own 17-year old grey mare. The combination produced their second clear in a time of 38.78 seconds to ensure that they finished in the top three. 

 

A further nine riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 0.90cm National Amateur Championship Final as per the results below.

9th Philippa Ashworth riding Tango – 0/4 – 34.63 seconds

10th Julia Sykes riding Viper B – 0/4 – 38.96 seconds

11th Charlotte Edwards riding Carling Fords Touch – 0/4 – 40.26 seconds

12th Rosalyn Thompson riding Solomon DID – 0/4 – 40.66 seconds

 

This 1.15m National Amateur Second Round saw six combinations start their qualification campaign and from these starters, two combinations made it through to the jump off and also the Championship Final. 

 

The winner of this second round was 18-year-old Stephanie Gunn from Nottinghamshire. Stephanie achieved her win and Championship Final qualification on board Avatarr II, 15-year-old bay gelding owned by Heather Gunn. The combination produced the only double clear of the class, with the second clear ridden in a time of 41.50 seconds to ensure that the win was hers.

 

In second place and securing another Championship Final place was 19-year-old Charlotte Edwards from Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire. This time, Charlotte was on board Castleview Bouncer, an eight-year-old grey gelding owned by Jeanette Edwards.

The Dodson & Horrell National Amateur & Veteran Championships 2012 take place from the 15th November – 18th November 2012 at Aintree International Equestrian Centre.
