Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds at Duckhurst Farm

Duckhurst Farm in Kent played host to two of the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds last weekend (Sunday 9th September 2012). Following a competitive season of first round competitions, competitors rode for the chance to qualify for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree International Equestrian Centre in November 2012.

  

The Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds held at Duckhurst Farm consisted of the second of the 1.00m National Amateur Second Rounds and the first of the 1.10m National Amateur Second Rounds. The combinations starting each class were all hoping to secure one of the twelve direct qualifying tickets on offer for the Championships. 

 

The 1.00m National Amateur Second Round attracted 27 starters and from these, 19 combinations made it through to the jump off. In the jump off, 13 riders achieved an immaculate double clear, which meant that the times were to decide the places. 

 

The overall winner was 18-year-old Mollie Etheridge from Maidstone, Kent. Mollie secured her win and Championship Final place on board her own 15-year-old bay mare, Bilwood Dolly Dotson. Mollie rode her mare superbly to gain her double clear and she achieved the second clear in a time of 25.87 seconds to seal the win.

 

Second place was taken by 25-year-old Fiona Patty from Crowborough, East Sussex. Fiona rode Darwin IV, a 6-year-old bay gelding owned by Jennifer Patty. Fiona rode her second clear in a time of 30.04 seconds to ensure she finished in second place. 

 

The combination that finished in third was 45-year-old Nicola Waring from Dover, Kent and she secured her Championship Final place on her own 13-year old grey mare, Bonnie III. The combination produced their second clear in a time of 30.45 seconds. 

 

A further nine riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Championship Final.

8th Danielle Cave riding Cruz II – 0/0 – 33.69 seconds

9th Elizabeth Lodge riding Big Time George – 0/0 – 34.12 seconds

10th Jodie Randall riding Paddy Murphy – 0/0 – 36.68 seconds

11th Poppy Tubby riding Kuznik – 0/0 – 36.77 seconds

12th Katie Puxley riding Major Express – 0/0 – 38.62 seconds

 

The 1.10m National Amateur Second Round attracted saw 13 combinations start and seven of these got through to the jump off. In the jump off, five riders achieved a double clear, which again meant that the times decided the places. 

 

Securing her second win of the day was 18-year-old Mollie Etheridge from Maidstone, Kent. Mollie again secured her win on board her own 15-year-old bay mare, Bilwood Dolly Dotson and the combination posted a time of 33.89 seconds to secure the win.

 

Second place was secured by Jennifer Patty from Crowborough, East Sussex and she rode her nine-year-old chestnut gelding, Claude. The combination completed the jump off course clear in a time of 38.02 seconds to ensure that they finished in second place. 

 

Third place was taken by 19-year-old Jodie Randall from Deal, Kent and she rode her own 10-year old bay mare, Hambrooke’s 1st Lady, clear over the jump off course. The combination produced their second clear in a time of 39.90 seconds. 

 

A further four riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.10m National Amateur Championship Final due to the production of a clear in the first round of the class.
