Dodson & Horrell 0.95cm National Amateur Second Round at Sparsholt College

Sparsholt College Equine Centre in Winchester, Hampshire held a Dodson & Horrell 0.95cm National Amateur Second Round on Saturday 18th October. Each of the starters were hoping to qualify for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which takes place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool during the 19th – 23rd November 2014.

Of the nineteen starters coming forward for the twelve qualifying places, only nine jumped clear in the first round to go through to the jump off. The jump off then saw seven secure a double clear, with all of the competitors picking up a qualifying place in the championship final, the clock decided the final line-up.

Victory in this second round was secured by Leonnie Jones, aged 33 from Haywards Heath, West Sussex on board Bellatrix III a 7 year-old black mare owned by James Johnson. The penultimate combination to go in the jump off, they gained their double clear in 33.58 seconds ensuring the victory was theirs.

Second place went to 23 year-old Bex Foster from Hook, Hampshire and she took her a top two spot on her own 6 year-old chestnut mare Ruby Tuesday XII. Their double clear was secured in 34.01 seconds.

Third place went to Lana-Mai Couzens, 25, from Rowlands Castle, Hampshire with her own 8 year-old piebald gelding Peeping Tom. Delivery of a double clear in 34.51 seconds ensured the combination a top three placing, and also a spot in the Championship Final.

A further six combinations also went on to achieve their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 0.95cm National Amateur Championship Final.
