Each of the starters that came forward to contest  the classes were hoping to claim one of the twelve direct qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool during the 19th – 23rd November 2014.

Thirty-nine combinations battled it out in this second round and twenty-three eventually made it through into the jump off. With just the twelve qualification spots available, each and every rider was aiming to secure a quick double clear in order to put them in with a shout of taking one of these places. Eight combinations went on to secure that desired double clear, leaving the rest of field to compete for the remaining four qualification places.

Victory was taken by the last combination to go in the jump off, 25 year-old Philippa Wise from Congleton, Cheshire with her own 16 year-old bay mare Breeze II. Using the order of the draw to their advantage, the pair jumped their double clear in 34.83 seconds to take the win with over three seconds to spare.

Second place was taken by 14 year-old Jenna Cairns, from Macclesfield, Cheshire with her mother Louise’s 11 year-old grey mare Wonderful III. This combination produced two immaculate rounds to finish with a double clear in 37.97 seconds.

Third place went to 20 year-old Sarah Lees, from Knutsford, Cheshire and she partnered her father Iain’s 7 year-old bay mare Pickmere Da Vinci. This combination crossed the finish line in 38.28 seconds to secure their place in the top three.

An additional nine combinations also went on to achieve their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 0.95cm National Amateur Championship Final.
