Dodson & Horrell 0.85cm and 1.05m National Amateur Second Rounds at Wix Equestrian Centre

The Dodson & Horrell 0.85cm and 1.05m National Amateur Second Rounds continued last weekend (Sunday 12th October) at Wix Equestrian Centre in Manningtree, Essex, 

Each of the starters were hoping to claim one of the twelve direct qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool during the 19th – 23rd November 2014.

Dodson & Horrell 0.85cm National Amateur Second Round

This second round saw nine combinations come forward to contest and seven put in a first round clear to go through to the jump off.  Only three double clears were produced.

Victory in this second round was taken by 18 year-old Scarlett Baker from Chelmsford, Essex who produced the fastest double clear of the class partnering her own 15 year-old chestnut mare, Matanique. Drawn last to go in the jump off Scarlett knew that an accurate and fast round would see here challenge the leaders. Scarlett and Matanique duly achieved this to take victory in 28.96 seconds.

Scarlett also went on to take second place with her own Chat Balou a 24 year-old bay gelding.  This combination produced their double clear in a time of 29.31 seconds.

Third place went to Connor Fletcher (12) from Rayleigh Essex with his mother Jenny’s Temple Dervish a 7 year-old grey mare Temple Dervish. Connor and Temple Dervish were the only other combination to produce a double clear which they produced in 36.50 seconds.

A further four combinations also went on to achieve their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 0.95cm National Amateur Championship Final.

3rd Connor Fletcher & Temple Dervish – 0/0 – 36.50 seconds

4th Elizabeth Barr & Wild Montana Skies – 0/4 – 28.64 seconds

5th Caroline McBride & Cavalier Casino Royale – 0/4 – 31.51 seconds

6th Toni Evans & Hermione V – 0/8 – 26.86 seconds

7th Kerry Evans & Caramel Twist – 0/8 – 45.29 seconds

NB: Qualifications will be updated pending official grading of results.

Dodson & Horrell 1.10m National Amateur Second Round

Eight combinations came forward to contest this second round four put in a first round clear to go through to the jump off.  Two double clears were produced.

Holly Gadsby,16, from Chelmsford, Essex secured the top spot on her mother Gillian’s 9 year-old bay mare, Sophie XIV. Drawn first to go in the jump off this combination jumped their double clear in 31.23 seconds a time which proved to be unbeatable.

Second place was taken by Eve Morris (17) from Epping, Essex on her own 14 year-old chestnut gelding Gwaelodygelli Trysor. This combination produced the second double clear of the class in a time of 36.36 seconds.

Third place went to Natalie Benson (31) from Basildon, Essex with her mother Terri’s a 7 year-old skewbald mare Be Lucky Darco. Picking up four faults at the beginning of the course they stopped the clock in 36.21 seconds.

A further one combination also went on to achieve their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 0.95cm National Amateur Championship Final.

1st Holly Gadsby & Sophie XIV – 0/0 – 31.23 seconds

2nd Eve Morris & Gwalodywelli Trysor – 0/0 – 36.36 seconds

3rd Natalie Benson & Be Lucky Darco – 0/4 – 36.21 seconds

4th Kallum Fletcher & Temple Dervish – 0/R
