Dodson & Horrell 0.85cm, 0.95cm, 1.05m and 1.10m National Amateur Second Rounds at The Cabin Equestrian Centre

The Cabin Equestrian Centre in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire hosted a busy weekend of Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds. On Saturday 20th September they held a 0.85cm and 1.05m second round whilst on Sunday 21st September; we saw combinations compete in a 0.95cm second round and a 1.10m second round. 

A total of thirty starters came forward to compete across the four second rounds and each starter was aiming to collect one of the twelve direct qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool during the 19th – 23rd November 2014. 

Dodson & Horrell 0.85cm National Amateur Second Round. 
Eleven competitors came forward to contest this Dodson & Horrell 0.85cm National Amateur Second Round and eight went on to produce the first round clear needed to make it through into the jump off. Four combinations then went on to produce a double clear.

The win was taken by 29 year-old Lesley Ross from Aberdeenshire on her own 7 year-old chestnut gelding Everlong. Drawn mid-way through the order of go for the jump off, the combination produced the fastest double clear of the class in 28.79 seconds to ensure that they could not be beaten.

Jenna Brown, 16, from Dundee, Angus took second place on board Sissi S, a 9 year-old bay mare owned by Gary Brown. They also produced a fast double clear and they took their place in the top two in 32.31 seconds.

Third place went to Amanda Paterson, 23, from Inverurie, Aberdeenshire on her own 16 year-old dark brown mare Clover Royale. Their double clear in 37.49 seconds ensured a top three finish.

An additional five riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 0.85cm National Amateur Championship Final.

Dodson & Horrell 0.95cm National Amateur Second Round. 
This Dodson & Horrell 0.95cm National Amateur Second Round attracted nine starters, five of whom delivered a first round clear for a place in the jump off. Just two combinations went on to produce a double clear.

Ailsa Noble, 18, from Penicuik, Midlothian took victory on her own 12 year-old bay gelding Harvey IX. The first combination to go in the jump off, they proved to be unbeatable after producing a fast double clear in just 32.09 seconds. 

Second place went to 30 year-old Louisa Timmins from Lasswade, Midlothian riding her own 18 year-old bay mare Osprey V. Second to go in the jump off, they produced the second double clear of the class in 41.68 seconds.

Jules Coburn, 43, from Newmachar, Aberdeenshire on her own 7 year-old skewbald mare Skye IV secured the fastest four fault round to take third place. An unfortunate pole down at the beginning of the course saw the combination finish on four faults, but their quick time of 30.35 seconds ensured that they took a place in the top three. 

Another two riders also went on to achieve their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 0.95cm National Amateur Championship Final.

Dodson & Horrell 1.05m National Amateur Second Round.
This second round was contested by seven combinations and three got through to the jump off. All three combinations went on to secure a double clear, which meant that the clock decided the final line up.

The fastest double clear of the class was delivered by 43 year-old Jules Coburn from Newmachar, Aberdeenshire on her own 7 year-old skewbald mare Skye IV. The combination gained their double clear in 33.06 seconds, giving them nearly five seconds in hand.

Second place went to 30 year-old Louisa Timmins from Lasswade, Midlothian with her own 15 year-old bay mare Spindra Z. Louisa and her mare produced their double clear in 37.85 seconds to earn their place in the top two.  

Charlotte Mills, 28, from Tranent, East Lothian took third with her own 12 year-old bay gelding Quadro. Charlotte and Quadro delivered their double clear in 37.85 seconds.

2nd Louisa Timmins & Spindra Z – 0/0 – 37.85 seconds 
3rd Charlotte Mills & Quadro – 0/0 – 44.79 seconds

Dodson & Horrell 1.10m National Amateur Second Round.
All three of the combinations who came forward to contest this 1.10m second round secured a qualification place for the Championship Final.

Louisa Timmins, 30, from Lasswade, Midlothian riding her own 15 year-old bay mare Spindra Z, took the victory in this second round after producing the only double clear of the class. Two foot perfect rounds saw them take the win in 35.84 seconds.

Second place went to 47 year-old Hazel Laughlan from Lochgelly, Fife riding her own 18 year-old by gelding Condaleezy. The combination was unfortunate to pick up four faults late on in the course, but their quick time of 39.21 seconds secured them a place in the top two. 

Third place went to Charlotte Mills, 28, from Tranent, East Lothian with her own 12 year-old bay gelding Quadro. This combination went on to pick up four faults after dropping a pole at the final fence. They crossed the finish line in 46.94 seconds.
