Christie Pritchard Heads to the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship

The last three qualification places for the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship were fought for on Sunday at the Alexanders Horseboxes Scope Festival (UK) Supreme Championships and it was 18 year-old Christie Pritchard from Holyhead, Gwynedd that took both the top spot and the first Horse of the Year Show ticket.

Sixty-three combinations came forward to battle it out in this qualifier and after two rounds of competition; nine combinations were sat with a double clear, which meant that the clock was once again crucial in the allocation of the qualification places.

Winning rider Christie partnered Wendy Hawcroft’s 10 year-old dark bay gelding Bolton Gate Ben in this qualifier and they went on to produce the fastest double clear after clocking up a time of 41.63 seconds. This result saw them become the only combination to break the 42.00 second barrier with a clear in both rounds.

Annabel Shields, from Crook, County Durham was Christie’s nearest rival after she produced a double clear in 42.02 seconds on board Robert Shields’ 6 year-old bay gelding ABC Quantum Cruise.

The third and final qualification place was taken by Louise Saywell from Retford, Nottinghamshire on Billy Twomey’s 7 year-old dark bay gelding Pepper Corn 2. They delivered their double clear in 42.16 seconds.
