BURY FARM JEEP ALL STARS SHOWJUMPING GRAND PRIX

Yasmin Davis, aged 20 from Dorset, recorded the biggest win of her career with the Jeep All Stars Showjumping Grand Prix title, worth £3,000 to the winner. Yasmin took the victory on Zilverster II, owned by Alison Davis. They were the sole partnership to provide a double clear in the eight horse jump off to win in front of a packed house at the hugely popular gala night.

“It’s all thanks to Matt Lanni, Corinne Bracken and British Showjumping’s International Training Experience,” said Yasmin, who was selected to compete in Bonheiden, Belgium, a month ago under Matt and Corinne’s guidance through British Showjumping’s scheme.

“They walked the courses with me and advised in the warm-up, all their knowledge was very helpful.”

And Dorset based Yasmin relied on Matt’s training for the Jeep Grand Prix. “He gives me confidence,” she said.

The 10-year-old Zilverster II, a daughter of Guidam, was purchased from a farmer in Holland two years ago.

“She was used as a broodmare and bred two foals, and although she had been broken in, she only knew the basics and it took ages to click with her,” said Yasmin, who struggled until spending a month with Emile Tacken last year.

“She was strong and crossed her jaw and ran away with me, so Emile concentrated on flatwork and went right back to basics, working on a level rhythm.”

It was a slow process, and Yasmin only noticed the improvements six months ago. But she is now reaping the rewards. Ambitions include the Young Rider European Championships 2015 and the U23 British Championship at Olympia.

Billy Twomey’s bid in the Jeep Grand Prix failed at the first fence when Ardcolum Duke, his own 10-year-old Irish-bred stallion by Gypsy Duke and out of a Clover Hill mare, tapped out a pole.

But the pair – winners of the Speed Horse of the Year at Horse of the Year Show, Birmingham two weeks earlier – eased into second with the fastest time, some seven seconds quicker than the winner.

Third went to Kerry Brennan and the consistent Quidam De Revel/Cash 11-year-old Wellington M, owned by Liane Smith. This partnership had also enjoyed a week competing in the International classes at Horse of the Year Show after topping the Gold League by an incredible 134 points, and finished third in the Horse of the Year Show Accumulator.

Ben Walker brought Di and Pennie Cornish’s German-bred 12-year-old Victory VI into fourth, just ahead of Lauren Edwards and Beverly Widdowson’s Calcourt Falklund. Lauren was another to contend Horse of the Year Show with success after qualifying through the wildcard series at Arena UK.
