Amy Inglis wins at Saut Hermes au Grand Palais with Jake Saywell close second

It was a good day for Great Britain on Saturday at the FEI CSI 5* Saut Hermes au Grand Palais when young riders Amy Inglis and Jake Saywell took the top two places in the Les Talents Hermes 1.45m class for riders aged 25 years and under.

It was 21 year-old Amy Inglis from Haywards Heath,  who won Team Gold and Individual Bronze at last year’s Young Rider European Championships, that took the victory.  Riding Every Way, a 14 year-old bay mare owned by Belle Grey Farm, she posted the fastest clear in the eight strong jump-off to lead the field with a time of 35.53 seconds.

Her blisteringly fast round was an incredible 2/100th of a second faster than fellow British rider Jake Saywell, aged 21 years from Newark, which was enough to secure her the lead in a class that had seen twenty riders come forward.   Jake riding Havinia van de Roshoeve, an 11 year-old grey mare owned by Rachel Gascoine, took 2nd place with his time of 35.55 seconds which saw him relegate Emanuele Massimiliano Bianchi (ITA) into 3rd place with Zycalin W with their clear in a time of 35.85 seconds.

The class, which had seen some of the most talented younger riders in Europe invited to compete, was a hard fought one with nine jumping clear in the first round.  It was a further seven clear rounds that were achieved in the jump off with less than a second separating the top three places.
