Abbie Bevan storms to victory in the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Round at Arena UK

Arena UK in Grantham, Lincolnshire played host to a hotly contested Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Round and a bumper field of 124 combinations came forward to jump. It was Abbie Bevan who stormed to victory with an unbeatable treble clear.

Each rider began the class with high hopes of claiming one of the two qualification spots on offer for the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Championship Final, which will be held during this October’s Horse of the Year Show.

Following two challenging rounds of showjumping, competitor numbers were whittled down to just fourteen for the final jump off against the clock.

Abbie Bevan from Flint, Clwyd delivered the winning round on board Fabiola Fairy V, a 7 year-old grey mare owned by Colin Bevan. As the final combination to take on the newly shortened course, this pair pulled out all the stops to deliver a speedy treble clear in just 32.12 seconds.

Jumping into second place was Matthew Sampson from Sheffield, South Yorkshire with Lynda Hollinshead’s 6 year-old chestnut gelding, Cristo Beech. This pair produced a strong challenge as they stopped the clock on a treble clear in 34.64 seconds.

The riders and horses that finished in third to ninth took home the chance to compete in the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
