Danielle Westlake and Caramel Twist crowned the Pony Bronze League 148cm & Under Champions

The British Showjumping National Championships 2018 has proved to be a lucky one for Essex based showjumper Danielle Westlake, who stormed into the lead to take the Pony Bronze League 148cm & Under title after winning the All Horse Magazine 80cm Pony Open yesterday. Aboard the beautiful dun mare, Caramel Twist, Danielle was last but one to go in the nine pony jump off. Taking a risky tight turn to the fourth fence made all the difference as she came round the turn to the final fence to steal the lead from Belle Garrigan riding Icaris W. Shocked by her win, Danielle commented: “It’s just amazing! To think that we nearly didn’t come because it is such a long journey, but it has definitely been worth it. It’s been such a good show and I couldn’t have asked for anything more.”

Catching up with second placed rider Belle from Wrexham who is celebrating her 14th birthday today, she commented: “I did think that we had done it but I am still happy with second place. Herby is only five years old so he is still quite young and this is a big Championship for him. We’ve had a really good season and we were third in the Pony Restricted Rider 1.00m Championship here on Tuesday too. I’ve only been riding him since January but I just love him!”

The Bronze and Silver Pony/Rider Combination League was introduced by British Showjumping in 2014 and allows all pony riders to be able to track their progress on a regional and national league table. There are three leagues; Bronze, Silver and Gold and they are split into three height categories of 128cm, 138cm and 148cm.

It is not only competitors who are guaranteed a fabulous day out, the British Showjumping National Championships also offers a great family day of exciting competition, hospitality and afternoon tea offerings and a retail shopping village. Entry for spectators wishing to take advantage of this fantastic show is free and parking is only £5 per car.
