Club Membership

British Showjumping’s new £30 membership looks set to excite grassroots competitors

An exciting new initiative by British Showjumping has been launched to give competitors jumping between 70cm – 1.00m the chance to compete for minimal cost.   This news is, as I’m sure you can imagine, being met with excitement and enthusiasm from both unaffiliated and affiliated competitors alike.

Club membership is a new category which provides plenty of perks and benefits whilst also being good on your pocket. In a move to restructure their Membership system, British Showjumping have unveiled three simple categories – Club, National and International. And it’s the brilliant, brand new Club membership which has the greatest impact on our unaffiliated riders and which has been greeted with wide acclaim.

Club membership offers fantastic opportunities to any horse, pony and rider combination who have no registered results at National Amateur 90cm, British Novice, Stepping Stones, Pony British Novice or above over the past three years. So even though your horse or pony may have some winnings on his/her record, if you are a new rider it doesn’t stop you joining as a club member.

With the horse/rider combination being the key factor you can see how Club membership offers an exciting opportunity. The other big change is that there is no age limit on riders competing ponies so the days of someone having to register their pony as a horse once they were seventeen are long gone!

The membership isn’t only proving attractive to unaffiliated riders but also to producers of young horses and those that compete in other disciplines such as eventing, pentathlon and working hunters.
Competitions will run over 70cm, 80cm, 90cm and 1 metre courses and riders have welcomed the announcement that entries fees will be capped at just £10.

You may ask why you should consider joining up as a Club member?

Club membership means so much more than first meets the eye and if you look at this exciting new option you will see that there are enormous benefits for everyone.

*For a start, you don’t have to worry about clocking up prize money and jumping out of affiliated classes before you’re ready to upgrade.

*There’s no prize money in the Club category but the great news is that your horse and pony's full performance record will be posted on the British Showjumping website for you to visit at any time of the day or night your own fully graded information will be at your finger tips. This is welcome news for producers and dealers of young horses in the current economic climate. It not only saves the full affiliation fee but provides a proven competition record on the click of a mouse.

*In addition to collating and uploading your horse or pony's full grading information online, Club members will be eligible for regional leagues and championships.
Running from June to May, the eight regional leagues are spread across the country representing Scotland, Northern, West Midlands, Wales, East Midlands, East, South East and the South West.

*By popular demand the elimination rule of 'two stops and you’re out' has been relaxed for Club members allowing three stops before elimination. First rounds will not be timed but there will be a two minute time limit.

*In line with unaffiliated competitions adults have permission to ride ponies or horses.

* Club members are eligible for all training programmes, have access to a bi-monthly online Showjumping magazine and receive their own friendly easy-to-read handbook.

*Members also have peace of mind in the knowledge that the £30m public liability insurance is included in their value-for-money Club membership fee.

National membership runs from British Novice upwards for those members whom wish to qualify for National Championships rather than Regional ones. While International membership is self-explanatory for riders competing abroad.
