British Showjumping Equity Policy
British Showjumping is working to achieve, maintain and, where necessary, improve the concept of racial equality within showjumping at all levels. A Sporting Equals Racial Equality Charter was signed at the Royal International Horse Show in July 2002 as a first step towards achieving a Preliminary Award in racial equality.
“Equity is about fairness in sport, equality of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure that it becomes equally accessible to all members of society, whatever their age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality or social/economic status” (Sport England)
Statement of Intent:“In relation to Equity British Showjumping:
a)aims to ensure that all people, irrespective of race, age, gender, ability, ethnic origin, social status or sexual orientation, have equal opportunities to take part in equestrianism at all levels and roles
b)seeks to educate and guide British Showjumping members, their employees and volunteers on the ownership, adoption and implementation of its Equity Plan
c)intends to raise awareness of Equity through the implementation of this policy and the adoption of the Equity Action Plan and, as a result of this process
d)aims to monitor, review and evaluate progress in achieving the stated aims and to feed back to member bodies on progress made
British Showjumping will ensure that its recruitment and selection procedures are fair and transparent and meet the appropriate legal requirements.”
