Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Regional Final at Sykehouse Arena

The sixth of the Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Regional Finals was held this weekend at Sykehouse Arena in North Humberside (Sunday 24th June) and the competition proved popular and successful, with over 40 horse and rider combinations entering the class.

From the total number of entries, 42 riders and horses came from all over the country to start in the Regional Final with the aim of qualifying for the Tri-Zone Senior Discovery Championship Final, which will be held at the Victory Shavings British Showjumping Scope Festival (26th August – 1st September 2012).

After first having to produce two clear rounds, 30 combinations made it through to the final jump off and of these combinations, an incredible 24 then went on to produce their crucial third clear to qualify them for the Championship Final.

It was 28-year-old Emerson Sender from Richmond, North Yorkshire who was the eventual winner of the class. Emerson rode Karen Nixon’s five-year-old mare, Krystal Clover II, to victory over the final jump off course, coming home clear in an impressive time of 26.77 seconds. This time gave Emerson exactly a second in hand over the second placed combination.

In second place was 24-year-old Suzanne Ottewell from Lincoln and she achieved her treble clear on board Philip Mansfield’s 7-year-old mare, Billy Birvin. Suzanne produced immaculate third clear in a time of only 27.77 seconds to ensure that she clinched second.

In third after the final jump off was 27-year-old Michael Potter from Woodborough, Nottinghamshire who rode his clear round in a time of 28.85 seconds aboard Emilie Machon’s 6-year-old mare, Billy Butter.

A further 21 riders also achieved an impressive treble clear in times of under 37.00 seconds and the total numbers of riders qualified for the Championship Final was 24 following this Regional Final.
