Wednesday 04 July 2012

The eighth of the Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Regional Finals was held at Patchetts Equestrian Centre in Watford, Hertfordshire on Sunday 1st July 2012 and the competition proved popular and successful, with nearly 70 horse and rider combinations entering the class.
From the total number of entries, 68 riders and horses came from all over the country to start in the Regional Final with the aim of qualifying for the Tri-Zone Senior Discovery Championship Final, which will be held at the Victory Shavings British Showjumping Scope Festival (26th August – 1st September 2012).
After first having to produce two clear rounds, 26 combinations made it through to the final jump off and of these combinations, a commendable 15 then went on to produce their crucial third clear to qualify them for the Championship Final.
It was 32-year-old Nicky Boulter from Farnham, Surrey who was the eventual winner of the class. Nicky rode Alan Pymont’s six-year-old gelding, Risk It, to victory over the final jump off course, coming home clear in an impressive time of 32.60 seconds. This time gave Nicky more than a second in hand over the second placed combination.
In second place was 27-year-old Louis King from Kings Langley, Hertfordshire and he achieved his treble clear on board his own six-year-old gelding, Vladimir IV. Louis produced his immaculate third clear in a time of only 34.07 seconds to ensure that he clinched second.
In third after the final jump off was 18-year-old Bryony Ward from Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire and she rode her third clear in a time of 38.55 seconds aboard Samantha Gibbins’ five-year-old mare, Hay Que Fabulosa.
A further 12 riders also achieved an impressive treble clear in times of under 45.00 seconds and the total numbers of riders qualified for the Championship Final was 15 following this Regional Final.
