Following a competitive year of qualifying, the fourth Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Regional Final held on Sunday 24th June 2012 at Keysoe Equestrian Centre in Keysoe, Bedfordshire attracted entries from over 30 eligible horse and rider combinations, all hoping to claim their Championship Final qualification.
Riders flocked from all over the country with the aim of qualifying for the Tri-Zone Senior Discovery Championship Final, which will be held at the Victory Shavings British Showjumping Scope Festival (26th August – 1st September 2012).
Of the total entries, 37 combinations started in the Regional Final and nine combinations made it through to the final jump off after first having to produce two clear rounds during the earlier phases of the competition.
Of these nine combinations, only three were able to produce the all important treble clear required and it was 27-year-old Michael Fursedonn from Brentwood, Essex who finished at the top of the leader board. Michael rode Susan Bastone’s McCormacks Stitch to victory, coming home clear in a time of 45.24 seconds and with this result, he secured his place in the Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Championship Final.
Michael and McCormacks Stitch finished over six seconds ahead of second placed 22-year-old Alice Norman from Ely, Cambridgeshire. Alice rode her own Zonnemiek home in a time of 51.39 seconds to clinch the second qualifying spot for the Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Championship Final.
The third qualifying spot went to third placed 21-year-old Michaela Webb from Holcot, Northamptonshire and she rode her mother’s (Landona II) over the fences in a time of 56.20 seconds, producing the third and final treble clear of the day.
