Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Regional Final at Gracelands Equestrian Centre

The ninth Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Regional Final took place this weekend (Saturday 7th July 2012) at Gracelands Equestrian Centre in Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire. Following a competitive year of qualifying, the Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Regional Final attracted entries from over 30 eligible horse and rider combinations, all hoping to claim their Championship Final qualification.
Riders came from all over the country with the aim of qualifying for the Tri-Zone Senior Discovery Championship Final, which will be held at the Victory Shavings British Showjumping Scope Festival (26th August – 1st September 2012).
From the 27 starters, 14 combinations made it through to the final jump off after first having to produce two clear rounds during the earlier phases of the competition.
From these 14 combinations, eight were able to produce the all important treble clear required for Championship Final qualification and the overall winner of the Regional Final was Derek Morton from Stone, Staffordshire. Derek rode Diane Sowden’s six-year-old bay mare, Lanita Beech, to victory and he brought the horse home clear in a time of 36.81 seconds to secure her place in the Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Championship Final.
In second place was 28-year-old Emma Sargeant from Stafford, Staffordshire on board Patricia Morris’ seven-year-old grey mare, High Offley Arturos Rennaisance. Emma completed the seven fence jump off course in a time of 38.18 seconds to clinch the second qualifying spot for the Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Championship Final.
The third qualifying spot went to 21-year-old Emily Seal from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Emily earned her qualification on board Nick Seal’s Jasmine, a six-year-old bay mare. The combination cleared the jump off in a time of 39.63 seconds to secure third place.
A further five riders also achieved an impressive treble clear in times of under 48.50 seconds.

The Victory Shavings British Showjumping Scope Festival 2012 will take place from the 26th August – 1st September 2012 at Staffordshire County Showground.
