Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Regional Final at Bold Heath Equestrian Centre

The third of the Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Regional Finals took place this weekend (Sunday 10th June 2012) at Bold Heath Equestrian Centre in Widnes, Cheshire. Following a competitive year of qualifying, the Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Regional Final attracted entries from over 45 eligible horse and rider combinations, all hoping to claim their Championship Final qualification.
Riders flocked from all over the country with the aim of qualifying for the Tri-Zone Senior Discovery Championship Final, which will be held at the Victory Shavings British Showjumping Scope Festival (26th August – 1st September 2012).
Of the 45 starters, 16 combinations made it through to the final jump off after first having to produce two clear rounds during the earlier phases of the competition.
From these 16 combinations, six were able to produce the all important treble clear required for Championship Final qualification and the overall winner of the Regional Final was 21-year-old Laura Whitfield from Haltwhistle, Northumberland. Laura rode Laura Quinn’s Capitall Neil to victory, coming home clear in a time of 41.56 seconds to secure her place in the Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Championship Final.
In second place was 32-year-old Eve Staveley from Warrington, Cheshire on board her own bay gelding, Shadow IV. Eve completed the seven fence jump off course in a time of 43.95 seconds to clinch the second qualifying spot for the Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Championship Final.
The third qualifying spot went to 41-year-old Nigel Coupe from Preston, Lancashire. Nigel earned his qualification on board Amy Morton’s Aranka B and the combination cleared the jump off in a time of 47.54 seconds to secure third place.
In fourth was 19-year-old Freya Metters from Wigan, Lancashire and she secured her qualification with a treble clear on board her own Maesmynach Jester. The combinations achieved a time of 50.21 seconds in the jump off.
In fifth was 23-year-old Jennifer Brookfield from Preston, Lancashire and she rode her own Zadinus over the jump off course to achieve her treble clear in a time of 50.91 seconds.
The final qualification went to sixth placed 17-year-old Katie McManus from Skipton, North Yorkshire. Katie achieved her qualification on board Robert Moorhouse’s Glenmoor. The combination secured their treble clear in a time of 51.05 seconds.
The Victory Shavings British Showjumping Scope Festival 2012 will take place from the 26th August – 1st September 2012 at Staffordshire County Showground.
