Toby Fry & Alice Weightman are victorious in the Charles Britton Equestrian Construction Winter JA Classics at Bury Farm Equestrian Centre

The 2019 Charles Britton Equestrian Construction Winter JA Classic Qualifiers came to an end this weekend during the 148cm Pony Premier Show at Bury Farm Equestrian Centre in Slapton, Buckinghamshire.

The qualifiers saw riders seeking a top three qualifying place for the prestigious Charles Britton Equestrian Construction Winter JA Classic Championship, which will take place at SouthView Competition & Training Centre in Cheshire across the weekend of the 6 – 7 April 2019.

Charles Britton Equestrian Construction Winter JA Classic Qualifier – Saturday 16th March 2019

Toby Fry from Swindon, Wiltshire claimed the win in the penultimate qualifier on Saturday riding Jamie Fry’s Zucan V, a 14 year-old dark bay gelding whom Toby has produced from Newcomers level.

Just three of the six combinations in the second round made it through to the final jump off and it was a confident win from Toby when he crossed the finish line with a treble clear with 9.23 seconds to spare. Second placed Georgia Wareham and Tania Wareham’s Dun the Business III were the only other combination to jump treble clear, posting a time of 43.19 seconds. Third place was awarded to Alice Weightman and Epapke. They came home with four faults in 36.64 seconds.

2nd Georgia Wareham & Dun the Business III – 0/0/0 – 43.19 seconds

Charles Britton Equestrian Construction Winter JA Classic Qualifier – Sunday 17th March 2019

Alice Weightman from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire stepped up in the final qualifier on Sunday after taking third place in Saturday’s qualifier. Alice took the win aboard Clare Weightman’s Epapke, a 10 year-old bay mare whom Alice has produced from 90cm competitions since 2016.

The initial line up saw twenty competitors come forward to take on Keith Bristow’s track with the hopes of gaining one of the last tickets on offer but just two made it through to the final round. Alice produced the only treble clear of the competition crossing the finish line in 43.68 seconds. Harry Brown and Hally IV, a 16 year-old grey mare owned by Susannah Brown, were Alice’s closest rivals but picked up four faults early on in the final round in 38.49 seconds which was good enough for second place. Third place went to Holly Cooper who was the fastest four faulter in the second round with Tania Andrews’ Beech Comber.
