Thursday at the Alexanders Horseboxes Scope Festival (UK) Supreme Championships 2016

Hot classes and big winners - the Alexanders Horseboxes Scope Festival (UK) Supreme Championships extravaganza continued on Thursday.

Holly Smith added yet another title to the ever-growing tally of Grennanstown Sarco Luxhill with the EMS Asset Management B and C Championship.

The Irish-bred 6-year-old won both age classes at Chepstow and Allington two star International shows and also topped the winter grade C final at Bolesworth.

“He makes it so easy to keep winning,” said Holly, who is targeting the HOYS Foxhunter final with the big, rangy bay gelding.

Emma-Jo Slater, two seconds in arrears, brought Kim Barzilay’s scopey 7-year-old Kimba Flamenco into second with Claire Shepherd on El Diablo Grande in third.

Helen Tredwell outpaced all 55 rivals to take the RH Contractors Scaffolding medium tour 1.35m on Ann and Colin Garrett’s Sebastian VII.

This British-bred Unbelievable Darco x Animo 10-year-old has easily stepped up to International Stairway and International Trials this year after winning in Lanaken and Bonheiden earlier in the season.

Second in the initial day’s big tour 1.45m on Wellington M, Kerry Brennan again had to settle for second, on this occasion riding Dynamic III. Joe Clayton on Steve Barnes’ Millioninmind took third in the 13-horse jump-off.

Adrian Whiteway topped the Independent Asset Management small tour 1.25m with the nine-year-old Cojack by a slender 0.12 of a second.

A total of sixty-three started in this hotly contended two-phase, with Lance Whitehouse on Cartino III taking second just ahead of yesterday’s winner, Paul Barker on Sandors Legacy.

Chelsea Skelton took victory in the David Hopkinson under 21 Championship in a fiercely contended seven-horse jump-off on Caramba.

“I was the only one to get the turn inside to the double, he’s better at turning than galloping and he felt like he was trying so hard,” said Chelsea, who has produced this 9-year-old for four years – He’s my baby, we grew up together.”

Millie Allen had set a great, seemingly unbeaten standard with the feisty Balou Star but took second 0.73 of a second in arrears.

Oliver Fletcher jumped a good double clear over the substantial track for third on Temple Rebus.

Morgan Carpenter headed the Bliss of London amateur 1.10m on the Burggraaf nine-year-old Merllyns Mirage.

Rhiannon Lewis and Tequila Sunset III were three seconds in arrears for second with Lucy Wood on Duc De Lyon in third.

And Morgan’s brother Iwan Carpenter was in the winner’s spot as well. Iwan used his final draw to full effect to take the Ashbourne Equestrian Fashion Supreme 128cm championship with Brookhall Glimpse by 3.43 seconds.

“I heard the commentator say I was neck and neck with the leader and I wasn’t having that, I knew I’d have to go quicker, my Grandad [John] said ‘Don’t take any prisoners’,” said Iwan.

Madison Heath took second with Red Alert and Tom Francis-Jones claimed third on Major Jack.

Jodie Hall-McAteer successfully executed an almost impossibly tight turn into the double to land the CGS Construction Supreme Jubilee Pony Championship on The Little Squire.

“We have complete trust in each other, the turn was tight, but I thought it was doable and he’s naturally quick and easy to turn,” said Jodie.

Sophie Bowen-Howard took second with Quincy V and Bobbie Heath claimed third aboard Cisco Bay.

Jessica Howard [14 years] claimed the Peace Love World pony adventurer title from the front of the 9-pony decider with Claire Darwin’s 9-year-old Rocky Robin.

“He’s got a big stride and I used it to my advantage and he likes to be dared,” said Jessica, who trains with Dan Delsart – “He’s been helping me to get more power in canter.”

Ffion Robert and Kantjes Bozzy took second with Lottie Mayvers third on Gortahork Maeve.

Warwickshire-based Sophie Phillips [15 years] netted the Old School Bamburgh pony novice with Valentino Supreme in a hotly contended 14-pony jump-off.

“He’s better opening up and taking strides out, but he can also turn well,” said Sophie, who has ridden this 7-year-old for two years and was on her first visit to the Scope Festival.

Kallum Fletcher [16 years] claimed victory in a fast and furious seven-horse jump-off in the Great Coffee children-on-horses championship with Natasha Hawkins’ Disco III, a Ublesco-sired 10-year-old bred by John Whitaker.

“He’s so easy, like a 128cm pony in a 15.2hh body,” said Kallum.

Sophie Bowen-Howard was second on Cill Na Habhainn with Ben Clark in third on Curosa III.

Rachael Connor easily outpaced her rivals in the Buckaroo Saddlery 1.05m Adventurer on B Valeree.

“Her temperament is so good, she’s always happy and gives me 110% in the ring, I can turn her off no stride at all and know she’ll jump it,” said Rachael.

Gail Burchmore took second on All Byself with Emma-Jo Slater on April Love in third.

Clare Williamson topped the Graham Heath Equestrian 85cm Novice Debut Championship on the Je T’Aime Flamenco x Its The Business 6-year-old Spring Fair.  It was Clare’s first visit for ten years.

“I’ve been away in America at Columbia College, South Carolina, for four years studying studio art,” said Clare, who now works as a designer for furniture company CNC Routing.

Last to go Dawn Foster took second on Elcary VD Elsakker with Louise Foster third on Justin A Var Korna.
