Team NAF Children take second in Lamprechtshausen Nations Cups

Earlier today, the Team NAF Children secured another podium place for Great Britain after finishing joint second in their Nations Cup at the Sportridingclub Lamprechtshausen in Austria.

Solid performances saw the team share the spoils with The Netherlands after both sides finished on 8 penalties behind the Italian team who took the win with 4 penalties.

Thirteen year-old Atiya Bussey from Norwich, Norfolk led the charge for the British with Chesterfield Z, a 12 year-old grey gelding owned by Louise Bussey. Atiya got the team off to a great start when she returned home with a clear in her first round. She was unlucky to pick up 4 penalties in the second round. Joining Atiya on the team was 13 year-old Madison Heath, from Nantwich, Cheshire with Burgana, a 12 year-old bay mare owned by Claire Beecroft. This combination finished with a total of 21 penalties across their two rounds.

Next up was Isabel Saywell, aged 13, from Newark, Nottinghamshire with Upperclass II, a 17 year-old brown gelding owned by Elisabeth Whitaker. A great first round saw this pair collect just 4 penalties, a result which they built on when coming back into the arena for a second time. Riding with accuracy and determination, Isabel and Upperclass put clear round onto the board for Great Britain.

Hannah Barker, aged 13, from Northallerton, North Yorkshire took the role of anchor rider and she rode Cartouche II, a 15 year-old bay gelding owned by Ian Barker. Showing great maturity under pressure, Hannah belied her age and produced two superb clear rounds to ensure that she carried no penalties forward to the final result. She was one of only four riders to deliver a double clear today.

The Children, Junior and Young Rider Grand Prix’s will all take place on Monday 21st May. The Chef d’Equipe’s accompanying the squads are Tony Newbery and Clare Whitaker.
