Team GBR Squad for the Rome FEI Furusiyya 5* Nations Cup Announced

Rob Hoekstra, the World Class Showjumping Performance Manager has announced his squad of five that will be travelling to Rome for third leg of the CSIO 5* Furusiyya Nations Cup competitions. This will be the first of the four competitions within the series where Great Britain will be competing for crucial league points to assure themselves a place in the final in addition to inclusion in next years series.

The 5* International Show commences on the 22nd May and finishes on the 25th May with the Nations Cup taking place on Friday 24rd May at 15:30 hrs local time.

The squad selected are as follows:

Scott Brash MBE, the current World No.1 ranked rider from Peebleshire with Hello Sanctos, the 14 year-old bay gelding owned by Lady Kirkham and Lord & Lady Harris with whom he won Team Gold at the London 2012 Olympic Games followed by a 2013 European Championship Team Gold and Individual Bronze medal.

Peter Charles MBE, from Alton, Hants with the 12 year-old bay mare Odie de Frevent who is jointly owned by Olga White and Team Murka. Earlier this year, Peter took Odie de Frevent to Oliva in Spain to start off the season and this will be their debut on a squad for 2014.

Joe Clee, who is based in Belgium and Utamaro d’Ecaussines a 10 year-old bay stallion owned by Ludwig Criel. They were recently successful in a CSI3* in Lummen last month, where they secured a double win in the Grand Prix.

Ben Maher MBE, the current World No.2 ranked rider from Bishops Stortford with the 14 year-old grey mare Cella owned by Jane F Clark. It was with Cella that Ben won both a Team Gold and Individual Silver at the European Championships last year in Herning, Denmark.  They also top the FEI World Ranking List for Horse/Rider Combination for Jumping.

Michael Whitaker, from Nottinghamshire with his own 12 year-old chestnut gelding Viking V with whom he won Team Gold at the European Championships last year in Herning. Viking V has been targeted across the World Cup series this winter and this will be their squad appearance as a combination this year.

 The British Showjumping Teams are supported by Exchequer and National Lottery funding via UK Sport.

The World Class Development Programme underpins World Class Performance and, together with the Equine Pathway, they comprise the Equestrian World Class Programme, incorporating the three Olympic sports of dressage, eventing, showjumping and the Paralympic sport of para-equestrian dressage.  The Programme has been funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, through Exchequer and National Lottery funds, via UK Sport since 1998.
