TEAM FAIRFAX TAKE SECOND IN JUNIOR NATIONS CUP IN DEAUVILLE

Earlier on this afternoon, the Junior showjumpers representing Great Britain under the Team Fairfax banner took second place in the Deauville Nations Cup in France.

In a busy day for Team Fairfax, this competition was the first of two Nations Cups taking place, with the Young Riders preparing to compete later on this afternoon.

The competitors representing Team Fairfax all produced solid performances in the first round to leave Great Britain in equal first place on a zero score with The Netherlands. The second round saw the team narrowly miss out on taking victory after they finished on a total of 4 penalties behind The Netherlands who remained on zero. Their performance however did see the team finish 12 penalties ahead of France and Switzerland who took equal third place with final score of 16.

GB Performances
Taking the role of pathfinder for this Nations Cup was 17 year-old Jake Saywell from Newark, Nottinghamshire with the 8 year-old bay gelding Grand Cru Van Paemel, owned by Rachel Gascoine. Having jumped in the Nations Cup at Bonheiden, Belgium the week before, Jake was looking to build on that performance, which he duly did with a fantastic double clear within the time allowed. A strong performance from Jake and Grand Cru Van Paemel ensured that Great Britain were in a great position from the outset.

Chloe Smith, aged 18 from Shrewley, Warwickshire was the second rider to go and she rode her father Robert’s 9 year-old bay mare Bavi. The combination incurred an unlucky 4 faults in both rounds, but they ensured that they kept up the pace so as avoid collecting any time faults.

Next to go was Christie Pritchard, aged 17 from Holyhead, Gwynedd with her mother Tracy’s 11 year-old bay gelding, Waldemar. In the first round, Christie was pleased to produce a clear within the time, but the second round saw the combination unfortunately incur 8 faults. However this second round result was to become the drop score, which left Great Britain in good position overall.

The team anchor was 16 year-old Millie Allen from Stockton-on-Tees, Cleveland on Senator Cantino II, a 12 year-old bay gelding owned by Senator International. Millie was making her Junior Nations Cup Team debut and she so in style after producing a textbook double clear.

Final Results
1st The Netherlands – 0 penalties
2nd Great Britain – 4 penalties
=3rd France – 16 penalties
=3rd Switzerland – 16 penalties
