Emulating the result achieved earlier on this afternoon by the Junior Team, the Young Riders representing Great Britain under the Team Fairfax banner also went on to take second place in their respective Nations Cup in Deauville, France.
There are currently two teams out in Deauville, namely the Junior and Young Rider Teams. Both teams of riders not only contest their Nations Cups, but also a Grand Prix. GB Performances
It was Laura Robinson, aged 19 from Northallerton, North Yorkshire who acted as pathfinder for the team this afternoon and she was on board on her father Neal’s 10 year-old bay gelding Jonti. Having enjoyed success within the Junior Team environment last year, Laura was hoping to achieve the same as a Young Rider. Such is Laura’s determination to succeed; she and Jonti went on a secure a double clear today and in doing so set Great Britain up with a strong start.
The second rider to go was Rebecca Marsh, aged 20 from Warrington, Cheshire with Martin Dawes’ 17 year-old grey stallion Nelson Z. Rebecca and Nelson Z incurred 10 penalties in the first round, but the combination showed a marked improvement in the second round when they returned with just 2 penalties to add.
Alfie Bradstock, aged 19 from Wantage, Oxfordshire was next to go on Graham Fletcher’s 11 year-old chestnut gelding Wilhelmus S. The combination put in two solid performances to leave all of the fences up, but they did finish with a total of 2 penalties after incurring 1 time fault in each round.
Last to go for Great Britain was Abigail Newbury, aged 19 from Southampton, Hampshire with her father Tony’s 12 year-old black gelding PX Darco. Abbie and PX Darco collected an unfortunate 5 penalties in the first round after rolling a pole and incurring a single time penalty. The combination then went on to retire from the second round.
