Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifiers Conclude at Pembrokeshire County Show

The final Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier for 2014 was held yesterday at the Pembrokeshire County Show and thirty-three starting combinations set out with the aim of securing a place in the Championship Final.

Up for grabs at this qualifier were the last three direct qualifying tickets for the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show and each starter was hoping to produce a double clear in order to put them into the running for one of these spots.

Thirteen combinations went through into the jump off after producing a first round clear. Seven combinations delivered the desired double clear, which meant that the clock was to be the deciding factor when allocating the qualification places.

Sammie Jo Coffin (28) made the journey up from St Austell, Cornwall and she went on to win the qualifier after producing the fastest double clear of the class on board Boebka, an 8 year-old bay gelding owned by Sandra Gummow. The combination was drawn tenth to go in the jump off and after producing a fast but careful jump off round, they delivered their double clear in 38.12 seconds.

Second place was taken by 44 year-old Emma Slater from Carey, Herefordshire on board Mark Haines’ 9 year-old bay gelding Art D Usance. Their double clear was produced in a time of 38.58 seconds.

Third place went to 34 year-old Rowan Willis from Sonning, Reading who partnered Lyndsay Scatterty’s 10 year-old bay mare Arkade. This combination took third after securing their double clear in 38.83 seconds.
