The first of the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifiers took place at the weekend (Sunday 12th May 2013) and the class formed an integral part of the Nottinghamshire County Show showjumping schedule. The class proved to be popular, attracting 76 starting combinations.
Up for grabs at this qualifier were three direct qualifying tickets for the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) and all of the starting combinations were vying for one of these tickets. All of the combinations were hoping to produce a double clear to put them in contention for Championship Final qualification. A hotly contested jump off saw 10 combinations produce a double clear and placings were allocated according to the times.
The win was eventually taken by 21 year-old Richard Howley from Wetherby, West Yorkshire and he achieved his Championship Final qualification on board Zantiago RV, a 9 year-old bay gelding owned by Morgan Kent. This combination achieved the fastest double clear of the day with a time of 44.68 seconds.
Second place went to 26 year-old Anthony Condon from Nantwich, Cheshire on Pewit Quinto, an 8 year-old bay mare owned by Sue Davies. A double clear in a time of 46.24 seconds was enough to book the combination’s place in the Championship Final.
Third place went to 23 year-old Joseph Clayton from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire and he was on board the 7 year-old bay mare, Senator CC Catch II, owned by Senator International. This combination posted a double clear in 46.31 seconds to grab the third and final qualifying spot.
