Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier at the Pembrokshire County Show

The Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C qualifying competitions continued on Wednesday 15th August 2012 with the eighth qualifier, which took place at Pembrokeshire County Show in Withybush, Wales. The class saw 22 starting combinations compete for the chance to claim their direct qualification into the Championship Final.

The Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C qualifier saw riders gather from all over the country with the aim of qualifying for the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship, which will be held at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) on Sunday 7th October 2012.

From the 22 starters, seven combinations went clear in the first round to make it through to the final jump off. With only three direct qualifying places available, all of the remaining combinations were hoping to produce a double clear to put them in contention for Championship Final qualification. From all the combinations that went through to the jump off, there were no double clears produced, but there were five combinations that had a single fence apiece. This meant that the allocation of the three direct qualifying places went down to the times.

The winner of the qualifier was 49-year-old Tracy Priest from Cranleigh, Surrey. Tracy won the class on board her own seven-year-old bay gelding, Millfield Ultymate. Tracy and Millfield Ultymate were the second combination to go in the jump off and the pair had an unfortunate fence down at the last, but their fast time of 35.83 seconds ensured that they had secured the win and their place in the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final.

Second place went to 49-year-old Paul Crago from Reading, Berkshire. Paul rode Another Time, a six-year-old grey gelding owned by Dawn Cooley. This combination also had the last fence down, but their time of 36.98 seconds to secure them second place and a qualifying place in the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final.

The combination in third took the last direct qualifying place and this spot was filled by 42-year-old Bryan Smith from Malvern, Worcestershire. Bryan rode the seven-year-old light bay gelding, Agassi, owned by Mr Sport Horses. The combination unfortunately had the penultimate fence down, but their time of 38.11 seconds ensured that they had booked their place in the Championship Final.
