SEIB Winter Novice Championship Qualifier at Morris Equestrian Centre

The penultimate qualifier for the SEIB Winter Novice Championship 2015 was held on Saturday 28th March at Morris Equestrian Centre in Fenwick, Ayrshire and it was contested by forty-eight starting combinations.

Each and every starter was competing with the aim of taking home one of the two direct qualifying places available for the Championship Final, which will be held at the Longines Royal International Horse Show during 28th July – 2nd August 2015.

Spectators were treated to a competitive first round in which just over a third of the field produced a clear, leaving seventeen to go through into the jump off. Following the jump off itself, just three double clears went up onto the leader board and with only two qualification places available, the allocation of these came down to the all-important clock.

Victory was taken by 37 year-old Mischa Irving from Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire on her own and Allana Irving’s 7 year-old grey mare Casaretta. This combination produced their double clear in 42.40 seconds, giving them a narrow advantage of 0.38 seconds over the pair in second place.

Carla Bolam, aged 29, from Haswell, County Durham took second place on her own 6 year-old bay gelding Elia. The double clear delivered by this combination was secured in 42.78 seconds and their time was good enough to secure their qualification place.
