Samantha Smith Scoops KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice Second Round Victory at Pyecombe Horse Show

Fifty-one combinations turned out for Saturday’s KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice Second Round at Pyecombe Horse Show which is held at Brendon Stud in Pyecombe, West Sussex and it was Samantha Smith and Downtown Disco who managed to beat off the rest of the competition.

Returning home across the finish line with a treble clear was very much the aim of each competitor as they knew that this would secure a qualification place in the Championship Final at next month’s British Showjumping National Championships. In an eleven horse final jump off, nine combinations went on to achieve that all important third foot perfect round to keep their Championship dream alive.

Samantha Smith from Horsham, West Sussex took the top spot after producing the fastest treble clear of the class on board Sally Cooper’s 5 year-old bay mare Downtown Disco. Drawn eighth to go in the final jump off, this combination produced their treble clear in 34.51 seconds, which was to eventually give them nearly two seconds over their nearest rivals.

Second place was filled by Alex Bishop from Lewes, East Sussex with his own 4 year-old bay gelding Renkum J’Adore. This combination was given a late draw in the jump off and they put themselves in the money after securing their treble clear in 36.18 seconds.

Elise Pilbeam from Swanley. Kent secured third after producing her treble clear with her father Gary’s 6 year-old chestnut gelding Euribor. This combination crossed the finish line in 42.50 seconds.

Nine combinations from this second round now go forward to the KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice Championship Final.
