Rider turned Professional?

With thanks to Sport England, British Showjumping is now offering a new professional development programme, to progress riders into the professional world as opposed to down the elite athlete route, whether this is from producing young horses, running your own yard, course designing or coaching.

The programme will take on 8 individuals with the aim to have confidence to set up or take their profession further by the end of the year. With the help from the funded programme to give the individuals the experience and training needed to take this step.

The programme is flexible enough to be specialised for the individual’s profession. A few areas that potentially can be included are:

  • Equine pathway education
  • Promoting a  business
  • Managing a business
  • Financial reports
  • Coaching bursary
  • Professional experience
  • Part of British Grooms Association for one year

This is a great opportunity for any young professionals to gain the skills and knowledge required to start up or take forward their own business in the field of their choice.  

Eligibility criteria:

  • Aged 18-30
  • Excludes those competing in the Gold League
  • Preferably have experience in the profession they want to move into
  • British Showjumping member
  • The applicant must indicate whether they are aspiring to be a top rider or aiming towards another profession within equestrian.
  • Reside in England
