Rachael Connor scoops Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier win at the British Showjumping National Championships

Closing the show at the British Showjumping National Championships in Arena 3 was the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier which was won by Manchester based rider Rachael Connor.

As just three qualification places were on offer for the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show, all of the seventy-three competitors were keen to take on the challenges of Andrew Palmer’s course. Out of the twenty-five riders who had made it through to the jump off there were just eleven riders clear and Rachael took the lead in a time of 40.76 seconds.

Speaking to Rachael after her round on board her 7 year-old chestnut gelding Zaha, she explained: “I have been training with John Steels and this is my third time trying to qualify for the HOYS Grade C so I am so pleased. He is very bold on grass so I was completely confident in taking him through the course on all the tight turns.”

Securing second place was Chloe Winchester from Eye, Suffolk riding Sharon Bayston’s 8 year-old grey mare, Shannondale Sue. This combination delivered a flawless double clear in 41.76 seconds.

Declan Irvine travelled from Coatbridge, Lanarkshire and scooped third place with a double clear on board Horatio Van Ter Hulst, a 10 year-old bay gelding owned by Angela Main. This pair secured their second foot perfect round in 42.21 seconds.
