Phillip Miller makes his mark in the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier at the South of England Show

The showjumping at the South of England Show in Ardingly, West Sussex got underway on Thursday and Phillip Miller capitalised on his late draw to win the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier and book a place in the Championship at the Horse of the Year Show.

Hertfordshire based Phillip fought off the challenge from forty-four other starters to take the top spot on board Gepetto, an 8 year-old grey gelding owned by Emma Ziff. In an ultra-competitive fifteen horse jump off where three Horse of the Year Show tickets were on offer, Phillip and Gepetto were the penultimate combination to go and they produced one of just six double clears. Their time of 44.50 seconds was to prove unbeatable.

Timothy Page from Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk took second place with Granby, an 11 year-old grey gelding owned by Derek Meeds. This combination were strong challengers for the top spot and they produced their double clear in 45.09 seconds.

The third and final Championship ticket went to Alex Gill from Northallerton, North Yorkshire. Alex rode the Billy Stud’s 7 year-old grey gelding Billy Manjaro and the pair secured their double clear in 46.64 seconds.
