Nicole Kershaw Wins Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round at Sparsholt College

Sixty-eight combinations started out in Sunday’s Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round at Sparsholt College in Winchester, Hampshire and those competitors certainly had the best of the weekend’s weather.

Each starter was campaigning for one of the two Horse of the Year Show tickets on offer for this October’s Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final and the class came down to the eight combinations who made it as far as the final jump off.

Fifteen year-old Nicole Kershaw from Manchester took the top spot with Michelle Kershaw’s 8 year-old grey gelding, Miami Moonbeam after the pair produced the only treble clear of the class. Nicole and Miami Moonbeam made the most of being drawn as the last combination to go as they knew exactly what was needed for the win, which was a treble clear inside the time allowed. They went on to produce an accurate and fast round to secure their third clear round in 46.24 seconds.

The top two was rounded off by 12 year-old Holly Truelove from Brigg, North Lincolnshire on Orchids Adventure, a 7 year-old bay gelding owned by Barrie Truelove. This combination also left all of the fences standing during the final jump off, but they were unlucky to finish just over the time, a result which left them with a single time fault.

With the top two taking the direct qualifying tickets for the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show, the riders and ponies that finished in third to fifth missed out on Championship qualification this time around. They did however take home the chance to compete in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
