Michael Whitaker & JB’s Hot Stuff finish 3rd in Gothenburg World Cup Qualifier

Sunday 25 February 2018

The final World Cup Qualifier, which took place earlier today in Gothenburg, saw some of the world’s best riders fighting for the last set of points on offer before the Final which takes place in Paris at the end of April.

It was eleven of the thirty-three strong field that made it through to the jump off across the 1.60m course designed by Peter Lundstrom.  Henrick von Eckermann and Mary Lou secured the win with their clear in a time of 36.89 seconds, much to the visible delight of the home crowd packing the grandstands.  They were the only combination that managed to break the 37 second barrier with the closest being Olivier Philippaerts and H&M Legend of Love (BEL) who broke the finish line in 37.42 to take 2nd place.

Michael Whitaker with the British Bred 12 year-old bay mare JB’s Hot Stuff, owned by her breeder Jayne Bean, put in an incredible double clear to finish 3rd with their time of 37.52 seconds.  He was joined by fellow British Rider and nephew, Robert Whitaker, with the 15 year-old bay gelding Catwalk who is jointly owned by Mandy Hall and Clare Whitaker.  Their clear in a time of 41.61 seconds saw them finish in 6th place behind Nicola Philippaerts and Aldrick Cheronnet who finished in 4th and 5th place respectively.
