Michael Jones wins Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier at Hertfordshire County Show

Saturday saw Hertfordshire County Show in Redbourn play host to a thrilling Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier, where Michael Jones fought off stiff competition to take first place.

With three qualification places on offer for the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show, the thirty nine strong starting line-up were ready to take on the challenges of Peter Gillespie’s course. Following the first round, just eight talented combinations remained to compete against the clock in the final jump off.

Michael Jones from Lutterworth, Leicestershire produced the winning round on board his own 8 year-old bay mare, Trezanti. This partnership took on the newly shortened course in fine style, jumping a super quick clear round to stop the clock in 33.71 seconds.

Second place was taken by John Crippen who travelled from Chesham, Buckinghamshire with Nicky Baily-Gibson’s 8 year-old grey gelding, Jorki. This combination proved their consistency as they jumped a second clear round in a time of 35.41 seconds.

Claiming third place was Kelly Taylor from Daventry, Northamptonshire riding Ferro Opaal, a 7 year-old bay gelding owned by Jack Eames. This pair jumped a double clear, crossing the finish line in 38.41 seconds.
