Cllr Andy Drummond, Mayor of Newmarket will be one of the visitors in attendance at the public demonstrations in the Peter O’Sullevan Arena at Palace House, Newmarket on Saturday 28th January. The Mayor will be supporting the first British Showjumping clinic to be staged in the arena

The clinic will be led by renowned showjumping coach Mia Palles-Clark and will be a technical jumping training session for both British Showjuming members and non-members.

Visitors will have the chance to watch these clinics at 11.00am and 2.30pm as part of the daily demonstrations that take place for paying visitors to the National Heritage Centre for Horseracing & Sporting Art. There will also be an opportunity to meet the Mayor of Newmarket at the 2.30 demonstration.

The demonstrations, which are included in the general admission price of £16.50, add another dimension to the National Heritage Centre and are used to showcase how horses are effectively retrained after racing, highlighting different careers that they can go on to do. Showjumping is a discipline that is becoming increasingly popular with former racehorses and is supported by RoR and British Showjumping. Each a National Championship takes place at the British Showjumping National Showjumping Championships which is held at the NAEC, Stoneleigh Park in August

Mia Palles-Clark commented;

'It's heartening that the world of racing and showjumping can do so much to compliment each others progression. The Peter O’Sullevan Arena at Palace House is a first class facility and I'm delighted to be able to coach the BS areas riders in the heart of Newmarket.'

Iain Graham, Chief Executive at British Showjumping commented;

We would like to thank all parties concerned for bringing this terrific initiative and opportunity to fruition. For our sport to be showcased at such a prestigious venue, with its first class facilities, is something that we are extremely grateful for and it goes without saying that it has drawn considerable interest from our members.  Our support of the racing industry, via the encouraging of former racehorses to have a career within our sport, is one that we feel passionate about and to have the relationship between the two sports furthered in this way can only bode well for all parties concerned”.
