Mark Edwards wins Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Round at Wales and West Show

The first Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Round of the season took place at the Wales and West Show in Chepstow on Sunday and it was Mark Edwards who jumped his way to first place.

With the second round attracting a huge field of 109 talented combinations, the battle was on for the two qualification spots on offer for the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Championship Final, which will be held during this October’s Horse of the Year Show. Spectators were treated to a great competition.

Following two challenging rounds of showjumping, just twelve horses and riders were taken forward to the final jump off. Two combinations went on to secure a treble clear and subsequently bagged the Championship Final places.

Mark Edwards from Cowbridge, South Glamorgan rode Montreuxs Tale, a 7 year-old bay gelding owned Martyn Edwards to a tremendous win, after producing two consistently clear rounds for their place in the jump off. This pair went on to continue their run of top form as they produced a turn of speed over the newly shortened course to cross the finish line clear in 46.43 seconds.

Jane Annett from Horsham, West Sussex scooped up second place with the only other treble clear of the class. Riding her own 6 year-old brown gelding, Hold Up, Jane took a slightly slower line which paid off as they left all the fences standing in a time of 51.87 seconds.

The riders and horses that finished in third to fifth took home the chance to compete in the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
