Lucy Carves Her Way to Victory in Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Second Round at South View Equestrian Centre Pony Premier Show

Lucy Carver and Carnalecka Quickstep beat thirty-nine other combinations on Saturday to take victory in the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Second Round held during the Pony Premier Show at South View Equestrian Centre in Winsford, Cheshire.

From the initial starting field of forty, ten made it through into the first jump off. Just three double clears were produced for a place in the second and final jump off and this was enough to see the three direct qualifying places on offer for the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show secured.

Two riders opted to compete in the final jump off and both went on to produce treble clears. The fastest treble of the class came from 16 year-old Lucy Carver from Malton, North Yorkshire with her mother Rebecca’s 9 year-old bay gelding Carnalecka Quickstep. Drawn last to go in the jump off, this combination produced their third immaculate round in 45.57 seconds.

Second place was taken by 15 year-old Robert Murphy from Preston, Lancashire with John Carpenter’s 11 year-old grey gelding Opto-Mist. Robert delivered the only other treble clear performance and crossed the finish line in 46.17 seconds.

Katie Waldock-Smith, aged 14, from Ware, Hertfordshire took the third and final qualification spot with her mother Deborah’s 12 year-old bay mare Ross Cottage. This combination secured a double clear in 44.14 seconds and once they knew that they had bagged a qualification place, they decided not to jump again in the final jump off.

With the three direct qualifying tickets for the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show having already been secured, the combinations in fourth and fifth took home the chance to compete in the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Masters at the forthcoming British Showjumping National Championships.
