Keysoe 128/138cm Small Pony Premier - Round Up

New combinations dominated the winter 128cm second rounds at Keysoe’s popular small pony premier (7-8 February) to take the coveted qualifying places for the Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead in July.
Ellie Burrell-Squibb posted the sole clear round to commandingly head Sunday’s 128cm second round.
Ellie has only just moved up to this level and this weekend was the first to tackle second round qualifiers. But she dismissed any pressure to neatly ride a penalty-free round on Patricia Squibb’s 10-year-old My Little Liesel, an Irish-bred mare she has only ridden since November.
The Squibb family dominated the top two places, with Ellie’s cousin Henry taking second on Major Jack, a 16-year-old owned by his grandmother Patricia Squibb he took over from Tom Francis Jones two months ago.
Charlie Atkinson jumped to the top in Saturday’s 128cm second round with Craig Scott’s consistent Bunbury Conquest.
The pair, winners of the 128cm at Liverpool and South View’s Royal International Horse Show qualifier, outpaced all their rivals with the 16-year-old gelding matching Charlie’s enthusiasm to win.
Charlie was one of several generous riders who donated their prize money to the ‘Keeping Kate’ charity – in aid of Kate Ann Douglas’ fight with cancer and treatment in Germany. The show raised in excess of £600 to the cause.
Oliver Fry rode into the second qualifying place on Alex Mauree’s 10-year-old gelding Colliyers Pal Joey, a new ride he has taken over from Tatiane Mauree.
Eloise Squibb claimed third on Sarah Squibb’s Ffynnonbach Sandman just ahead of Izabella Rogers with Whinney Lass.
Claudia Moore has moved seamlessly from 128cm to bigger ponies and claimed Sunday’s winter 138cm second round on Katrina Moore’s Tullineaskey Fear Deas, an Irish-bred 16-year-old she acquired in December.
Madison Heath maintained consistency with Graham Heath’s 20-year-old Sonas Barney. The pair topped second round qualifiers at South View and Morris and they popped into second here.
Emelia Mitchell eased Jane Gibson’s 11-year-old Shaman Dance into third.
In Saturday’s 138cm second round, Charlie Rea Nelson scored her biggest win, taking victory in fine style on Susan Nelson’s 15-year-old Kiltomer Dan, a ride of 10 months.
Tegan Rowlands – placed in sixth last year’s final – brought Coren Rowland’s 22-year-old stallion Grey Palace into second and is aiming to go higher in this year’s final.
Jake Myers claimed the third qualifying ticket aboard Simon Ryder’s The Agent, an experienced 24-year-old he took over from Isabelle Ryder in November.
Thomas Hooper celebrated victory in Saturday’s British Showjumping 128/138cm handicap special with Richard Hooper’s 13-year-old Rochevalley Red Baron. They relegated Charlie Atkinson into second with brand new ride Camizion, an 11-year-old formerly with Poppy Deakin. Red Morgan and Dylasau Derior took third.
Charlie Atkinson doubled up in Sunday’s concluding 128/138cm handicap special, claiming the win aboard the eight-year-old Fast Fun, a mare he took over from Faye Sutton immediately after she finished sixth at HOYS.
Tabitha Kyle netted second place with the six-year-old Playboy Van de Zoetewei from third-placed Jessica Cunnington on Samantha Hemsley’s Mojo II.
