The 2015 KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice Second Rounds got off to a successful start over the Bank Holiday weekend with the first of them being held at Dean Valley in Woodford, Cheshire on Sunday 3rd May.
With each of the sixty-three starters competing for a place in the KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice Championship Final at the British Showjumping National Championships, the class proved to be competitive and the production of a treble clear was very much at the forefront of every competitor’s mind.
After producing two clear rounds in the initial stages of the class, twenty-one combinations made it through to the final jump off. Twelve then went to achieve an impressive and sought after treble clear.
Victory was taken by 22 year-old Rachael Connor from Rossendale, Lancashire and she was on board her own 5 year-old bay gelding, Valencia IX. With nine treble clears having already been produced before her, Rachael knew she needed to produce a clear in a fast time to be in with shot of being in the money. Drawn as the sixteenth combination to go in the jump off, Rachael used the late draw to her advantage, securing the clear whilst setting an unbeatable time of 36.24 seconds.
Second place went to 42 year-old Sarah Winterbottom from Glossop, Derbyshire on her own 5 year-old grey mare Dolly V. This combination delivered a solid treble clear in a time of 38.74 seconds.
Nicola Hargreaves, aged 32, from Preston, Lancashire took third with her own 5 year-old bay mare Forrella T.S and they gained their treble clear in 39.91 seconds.
A further nine riders also achieved a treble clear and therefore a total of twelve combinations will now go forward to the KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice Championship Final.

The British Showjumping National Championships 2015 will be hosted at the National Agricultural and Exhibition Centre (NAEC), Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire during the 11th – 16th August.
