Joseph Fernyhough delivers GB Grand Prix win in Austria

Monday 21 May 2018

The Union Flag was raised yet again in Lamprechtshausen, Austria when 17 year-old Joseph Fernyhough, from Stonehouse in Gloucestershire claimed the Junior Grand Prix as his own this afternoon.

Son of former British Team rider and Olympian Rowland Fernyhough, this was Joseph’s first appearance on a youth team making his win all the more notable.   Riding his father’s 8 year-old  British Bred brown gelding Calcourt Quicktime, his win came in the form of a clear in the jump off breaking the finish line with a four-second lead to secure pole position over Peter Szuhai (HUN) and East Wind who  had to settle for 2nd place with their clear in a time of 49.75 seconds.

This followed his Junior Team win, riding under the title sponsorship of Team NAF, when Great Britain secured victory in the Junior Nations Cup competition.   The next highest placings for the Brits came in the shape of Ben Clark with Jancovica who finished 6th place having picked up 4 penalties in the jump off, one of six whom qualified for it.

Results:
1    Joe Fernyhough/Clacourt Quicktime (GBR) – 0.00/45.61
2    Peter Szuhai/East Wind (HUN) – 0.00/49.75
3    Kamilla Ladefoged Rasmussen /Errando (SWE) – 0/00/53.46
