JOSEPH CLAYTON WINS THE 2009 WORLD CLASS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIER

Eighteen year old Joseph Clayton won the 2009 World Class Development Programme Championship Qualifier, at Rowallan Activity Centre. The World Class Development Programme final will take place in April at the British Open Show Jumping Championships.
Joseph riding his own ten year old bay gelding Saveur, jumped double clear in a jump off time of 38.90 seconds. Third place went to Anthony Condon from Nantwich, Cheshire. Anthony riding Sue Davies’ eighteen year old bay gelding, Whinny Jackson jumped double clear in a jump off time of 40.65 seconds. Lucy Guild took third place riding Sally Guilds’ nine year old dark bay gelding Titi D’Oase jumped a double clear in a jump off time of 40.89 seconds.

The WCD programme for Show Jumping was set up in 2002 with Lottery Funding through UK Sport and Sport England, and is for riders between the ages of 14 and 30 who demonstrate the exceptional talent and dedication to ride and win at Olympic level. The aim of The Programme is for aspiring Olympic Show Jumping riders to be placed onto an established development and training pathway that facilitates these riders to progress from WC Development onto the WC Performance Squad.
