Joe Clee Wins the €30,000 CSI 3* Lummen Grand Prix
Monday 14 April 2014
Joe Clee (36) with his own 10 year-old bay stallion Utamaro d’Ecaussines took the top spot in the FEI CSI 3* 1.50m Grand Prix in Lummen, Belgium yesterday.
The Belgian based pairing were one of fifty-six combinations to start out in this Grand Prix. Seventeen combinations then produced a first round clear to go through to the jump-off, meaning that it was anyone’s class to win. Of the seventeen combinations, seven went on to jump another clear round, which meant that the clock was crucial in deciding the order of results.
The top three combinations all achieved their double clears in less than 41.00 seconds. With less than less than 0.2 seconds separating them, the top of the leader board was tight, but it was Joe and Utamaro D’Ecaussines who scooped the win with a quick time of 40.54 seconds.
Finishing a very close second was Dutch rider Pieter Keunen on Cedrick 8; they crossed the finish line in 40.55 seconds. In third was Ireland’s Shane Breen with Confident of Victory on a time of 40.73 seconds.
